Fellini, Chelsea

The Blurb

Tucked away on Drayton Avenue in Chelsea, newly launched Italian restaurant Fellini unifies traditional Italian cuisine with a contemporary retro flair. Fellini is the latest establishment to be added to the roster of unique eateries founded by the team behind the Paparazzi café and the Paparazzi lounge. Fellini is an ideal spot for an aperitivo, long lunch or dinner.

The Style

Art deco style seating in green and saffron were complimented with dimly lit ceiling lights which set the mood throughout the evening. Vintage portraits on the walls were a nice touch while the DJ played classics from the 80s, later followed by contemporary Latin and R&B. The open plan layout allowed for you to see your food and drinks being freshly prepared which added a nice touch to the overall experience.

The Food

For my starter, I had the zucchini fritti and calamari fritti with a non-alcoholic Bellini. The deep-fried zucchini felt like a guilty pleasure – crunchy and lightly salte. The calamari was tender – soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside. The tartar sauce was sharp and tangy, and added an extra kick to the calamari. The Bellini was refreshing; the peach and fizz make for a perfect ‘go to’ summer beverage.

The star of the show was the main course, the spicy prawn linguine. Thinly cut pasta mixed with king prawns in a spicy tomato sauce with fresh chillies, garnished with Parmesan cheese. The prawns were succulent and full of flavour; the pasta sauce was rich and zesty with the chillies adding that much needed kick to take this meal to the next level. To finish I opted for a traditional Italian staple; a Torta Di Limoné. Personally, I am not a huge meringue fan, so was a little taken a back when I saw my dessert had a layer of meringue in it. I had hoped for the version that was more of a cake, pie consistency without the meringue. Nevertheless, I’ve never been one to shy away from trying new things. I can pleasantly say Fellini’s Torta Di Limoné was flavourful – a sweet and gooey middle with a firm pie base. Although not a meringue fan, I must admit that I did enjoy it.

The Crowd

The establishment was a mélange of couples, friends, and families.
