Alexandra Wood | My West London Life
Savile Row-based bespoke tailor Alexandra Wood likes browsing around Notting Hill market when she isn’t meeting lots of interesting people at workPosted on 20/10/09 Where do you live and why?Holland Park. You get more space to spread your wings, plus you get some relaxation from the hustle and bustle of the centre of town. What was the last show you saw?Hairspray. I could hardly contain myself. Michael Ball just makes you smile – he’s fantastic. What advice would you give a tourist?Grab a jumper and mac and get on an open tour bus to see it all in one day. Notting Hill and Camden markets are an absolute must. How do you feel working in such a famous, historic street? My clients always feel special when they see me in Savile Row, which adds instant credibility to what I do. Who are your customers?Mainly partners of law firms, MPs and QCs, along with many entertainers and sports personalities. Have you had any unusual tailoring requests? One very, very peculiar one, but it sounds far too off the wall to put in print... I will tell you a tame one: one man asked to have tailored shorts, rather than trousers for a suit. Who is your style icon and why?Carey Grant: he always looked effortlessly chic. I think that style will soon make its way back into fashion. What makes you happy?Seeing my customers’ confidence lift when I create a suit that makes them look and feel amazing and meeting new people from all walks of life every day is enlightening. What’s on your iPod?Everything! I love the Pussycat dolls, Black Eyed Peas, Van Morrison, Kings of Leon… the list continues. |
