Roots and Kultured
Open: Tues-Wed, 12pm-12am; Thurs-Sat, 12pm- 2am; Sun-Mon, available for private hire Posted by Meredith Berman on 22/06/2010 The style:Poetry readings and art exhibitions are just a few of the nights that make this bar a bit different to its predecessor (The Crescent Bar seemed to have got its inspiration from a strip club). Art exhibitions will see young students given the chance to display their artwork in chic surroundings. The new team has wisely kept the central chandelier made from champagne glasses and crystal lighting and added funky, hand-stitched cushions to give the seating a softer look. The music was chilled; a nice atmosphere for after-work drinks. The crowd:Hip with an artistic edge. The food:Don’t go hungry. On this limited food menu, Roots and Kultured offers a few different nibble platters. We had the R&K platter with bread (£11.50). It consisted of prosciutto, salami, mozzarella, camembert, olives, artichokes and cornichons. It was good, just not quite enough to substantially fill the void. There is a selection of other platters ranging from £7.50 to £11.50. The drinks:Roots and Kultured have nailed the cocktail list. We indulged in the creative pistachio martini (£7.50), with vanilla vodka, pistachio liquor, and a sweet pistachio rim. It was the obvious favourite. We also had a coconut caipirinha (£7.50), and the Kultured bloody mary (£7.50). Apparently the bloody mary consisted of 14 ‘secret’ ingredients. Whatever the secret was, it tasted fantastic. There is also a long wine list, as well as champagne and champagne cocktails (£8.50). 3 North End Crescent, W14; www.rootsandkultured.com 020 760 25225
